Miami by Will Smith is haunting every post on my social media feed once again, and that can only mean one thing- it’s Miami GP weekend!
Some teams have decided to celebrate in style with special liveries for the weekend, so let’s take a look at what we’ll be seeing on track this week!
Firstly, when I said celebrating in style, I was not referring to Ferrari. They unveiled their Miami livery yesterday and its safe to say that the fans are not … well, fans.
Some comment section highlights include:
- “make the HP logo bigger I can almost see it”
- “when your hp printer runs out of ink halfway through the job”
- “you expect the worse from Ferrai, and it delivers worse than expected”
- “which is worse? the strategy team or the design team?”
- “give Williams their engine cover back”
- “I feel like I just unboxed a pair of socks when I thought I was getting Lego”
- “just because tifosi love is unconditional doesn’t mean you should test it every other day”
Paired with fully white and blue race suits, I can’t help but wonder- are Ferrari missing their smooth operator? The suits are suspiciously similar to Williams’ … I know that’s just the HP logo colours, but its ironic for sure. To be completely and totally honest- I give it a 1/10.
On the complete other end of the spectrum, Racing Bulls have unvieled the most beautiful, Barbie-pink look. Obsessed doesn’t even cover it.
Now THIS is how you do a special livery!!!!!
I think all F1 cars should have to go pink at least once a year because it genuinely brings me so much joy. 100000/10.
Even the Redbull can on the front wing still looks chic somehow, its actually so cute that I, a self-proclaimed Redbull hater, feel inclined to buy one of the pink summer edition cans. That’s how good it is.
The other team running a different livery is Sauber- it’s neither good nor bad, in fact it’s a bit of a stretch to call it a ‘different’ livery.
It’s the same iconic neon green that we’re used to, and still just as good. I like it, no notes, and not much change either. 6/10.
Over in F1 Academy, Mercedes’ Doriane Pin will also be running a special livery this weekend.
I think the design is a perfect representation of the Miami vibes, without being over-the-top, and its super cute. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like the Mercedes F1 car will be carrying this livery this weekend- but they have got some pretty cool race suits!
I absolutely love how involved Doriane is with the Mercedes team, they really include her in everything and its so great to see. Do I loveeee the race suits? No. Are they nice by F1-race-suit-standards? Yes! Aside from the memes saying they look like tampon wrappers (no comment), I’m giving the race suits and F1A livery an 8/10.
George Russell and Kimi Antonelli are also running special helmet designs this weekend! And they’re gooooddd.
Really love how they’ve tied in the race suit design to the helmets, which George Russell has called the ‘theme of pinkness’ in Miami- as previously stated, I love to see the colour pink on track so I’m giving them both a 10/10. I have to say, though, that Kimi’s purple helmet is probably my favourite over George’s. It just looks so cool.
Another special helmet this weekend is none other than the king of special helmets, Alex Albon. He eats it up everytime, which is maybe why he’s opted for a fruit-themed look this weekend.
I mean, are you kidding? This is so cool!!! I love the little ‘offer’ sticker, and how all the sponsor logos look like fruit stickers too. Its so creative and fun!!! Another 10/10, I really love Alex’s helmets a lot.
Ferrari are going to be minorly forgiven for their livery-related crimes, because both their drivers have some really good Miami helmets.
I already really liked Lewis Hamilton’s helmet this year, and if you want to read my thoughts on all the regular race lids you can read them here, but the blue looks great. A little bit minion-esque, but maybe that’s just representative of the usual chaos Ferrari are plotting. This is like a 7/10 for me.
Big fan of the baby blue for Charles! This is really cute and definitely giving beach vibes, but I can’t help but realise that it’s not the same shade of blue as the race suits … and that bothers me. Its still a great helmet design though, so I’ll still give it an 8/10.
Esteban Ocon is another driver who knows what’s up when it comes to helmet designs- this one is no exception, it looks absolutely sick! A great lid for Haas’ first home race of the year, I like it a lot. 9/10.
Last but most certainly not least, celebrating the anniversary of his first F1 win in the coolest way possible, Lando Norris. I have never seen so much hype for a special helmet. This disco ball design is literally so cool, if I was an F1 driver I would run this every week.
I actually don’t even have the words to describe how obsessed I am with this helmet. The one shown in this picture is covered with actual disco ball shards, so unfortunately this isn’t the exact helmet Lando will wear on track- that one will be a vinyl print, which is slightly less shiny and exciting. But the pictures go so hard. An easy 10/10. 11/10, even. I actually might exclusively watch Lando’s onboard camera this weekend just so I can look at it more.
That’s it for helmets and liveries, but there is one other special thing that’s happened this week … Max Verstappen is a dad!!!! Forget all the things I may or may not have said about Max and Redbull, I am genuinely so happy for Max and Kelly, and baby Lily! The girl dad vibes are STRONG. Congratulations, and for once in my life I promise I will not complain about Max this week. Just this week. Normal behaviour will resume soon, but for now I’m going to keep smiling at this picture because baby fever is wayyyy too real.
