Firstly: an apology. Sorry for not posting last week, I am very busy and also very tired. Pinky promise it won’t happen again (it will). But with that said … WE’RE SO BACK!!!!!!!!!

Winter break is finally over and I feel the life creeping back into my soul after 94 days of fast-car-less insanity. Well, not quite that long- I did watch all 24 hours of pre-season testing because as previously mentioned, I went a little crazy without cars on track for 3 months. The season opener is set to take place in Melbourne, Australia this weekend and despite the 4am wake up time, I am very, very excited.

My first prediction is that my second favourite Aussie, Oscar Piastri, will take the top step of the podium (Danny Ric is still number one in my heart, sorry Oscar). I have a strong suspicion that Mclaren were sandbagging (not pushing the car to its limit to throw off the competition) throughout testing, and that MCL39 will be another championship-winning rocketship. Post Hungary papaya rules incident 2024, I was very anti-Oscar but I have quickly warmed back up to him and I really think he has it in him to win the WDC this year. I firmly believe it’ll be a Mclaren, and to be honest I’m not fussy which one. As for Australia, I want to see a nice, clean home race win to open the season; I think it would set us up well for a good year of racing where I will hopefully not crash out and/or curse out every Mclaren team member for their interesting strategic decisions. In my opinion, having no number 1 driver is a recipe for disaster but that’s a conversation for another time- and trust me, the second it becomes topical in the 2025 season, I will be telling you all about it and the Rosberg/Hamilton rivalry will be brought up. In detail.

Australia is also the home race of Alpine’s rookie, Jack Doohan. Thank goodness it’s the first race of the season, or I’m not entirely sure Jack would make it to his home race on his questionably short contract. That’s not to say I don’t think he’s good; I’m definitely interested to what he does in those first few races to show that he deserves to keep the seat. I like an underdog! However, whilst part of me would love to see him doing incredibly well in a strong car, a slightly bigger part of me would love to see Franco Colapinto back on the grid. My prediction for Jack is not a particularly positive one: he will not finish inside the points in the first race. That being said, I’d like to be proven wrong.

If the race winner isn’t a Mclaren, I think it will be a Ferrari. Lewis winning his first race in red would be nothing short of poetic, and I hear that the Scuderia is looking like it might be pretty quick.

I also think both Williams will finish in the points- is this extremely biased? Yes. Carlos Sainz went fastest overall in testing, and for the sake of my own mental health I need Williams to keep these good vibes going. I just have a really good feeling about them this year. Hoping and praying that that feeling is clairvoyance and not delusion, but only time will tell!

My next prediction is also me manifesting: Redbull will not be fast. I think out of the top 4 teams, Redbull will have the slowest car. Sorry to the Redbull fans, I respect your commitment to the team but I am definitely not one of you. I like Max and I love the F1 Academy girls, but unfortunately I can’t ever bring myself to be a Redbull fan until things improve behind the scenes. I have been saying for months that I don’t think Max will get his 5th WDC this year, but I think he’ll still obviously be putting in some good performances- especially if it rains this weekend in Melbourne.

Speaking of rain, let’s all join together in a prayer circle and hope that we don’t see another Brazil this year. I cannot handle that level of stress and I’m not even in the car. I really don’t think the rain will be that bad in Australia, but with 4 rookies who have very little race experience and no experience driving an F1 car in the wet we could be in for a healthy dose of chaos.

Bring it on, I am so ready for this season to start!
